Once again this year, the Newfield Central School District participated in the Big Apple Crunch, along with millions of other folks in New York state.
Students gathered in the elementary gym, and all crunched at the same time on Oct. 26.Apples were donated for all students, faculty and staff by Littletree Orchards and Indian Creek Farm.
The goal of this event is to bring children closer to food and farming with healthy fun;improve awareness during apple harvest;inspire us all to eat local; and to break the world record for a simultaneous apple crunch!
Michelle Menter has coordinated this event for the Newfield School District for the past three years. The school has its own orchard and several gardens, and the school-grown veggies are beginning to appear on the middle and high school salad bars.Way to go, Newfield!
